Philadelphia B Philadelphia International Medicine (PIM) hospitals have done exceedingly well in the 11th annual rankings of Best Hospitals by U.S. News and World Report by placing among the nation’s best in each specialty category. In addition, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania was among the very few Honor Roll hospitals, meaning it was one of the very best of all-round hospitals in the nation, according to the report.
PIM hospitals listed in the various specialty rankings include: The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Fox Chase Cancer Center, MossRehab Hospital, Pennsylvania Hospital, Temple University Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (and Magee Rehabilitation Hospital), and the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center. In the various specialties, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia placed second in the pediatrics rankings, Wills Eye Hospital (Thomas Jefferson University Hospital faculty) placed third in ophthalmology, and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania placed seventh in neurology and neurosurgery and ninth in otolaryngology, among others.
"Philadelphia is one of the nation’s pre-eminent centers of medical excellence, and the latest findings in the annual Best Hospitals edition builds on that fact," said Andrew Wigglesworth, president of PIM.
In all, PIM hospitals posted 36 separate listings, among the best showings of hospitals in any American city. In many specialty categories, several PIM hospitals were represented. "This is impressive not only because PIM hospitals are represented across the board in every specialty group, but also because so many PIM hospitals placed in each category. We are very proud of our doctors, nurses and other medical personnel who have contributed through compassionate patient care, cutting-edge research and proven outcomes," said Wigglesworth.
PIM hospitals also provide exceptional clinical care in areas not included in the Best Hospitals report. For instance, Crozer-Keystone Health System is an important center for the treatment of burns and reconstructive surgery as well as infertility, among other areas.
In additional to naming the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania as one of the best hospitals overall in the nation, the US News and World Report ranking of PIM hospitals and their areas of specialty include:
