For immediate release:

Philadelphia – Wills Eye at Jefferson, one of the top three ophthalmology hospitals in the United States, is joining the Philadelphia International Medicine network for international patient care.

International patients will now be able to access Wills Eye physicians and surgeons through one phone call to Philadelphia International Medicine (PIM). Wills Eye was ranked in the 2006 U.S. News & World Report’s listing of top hospitals as the among the best three ophthalmology centers in the nation. It marked the 17th year Wills Eye was ranked among the top three.

In addition to Wills Eye, PIM’s network also includes the Scheie Eye Institute of the University of Pennsylvania Health System, also listed among U.S. News’ top ophthalmology hospitals in the nation. By combining the services of Scheie Eye with Wills Eye, PIM now offers to international patients a choice of two centers that are among the best quality in eye care in the United States.

Under the new arrangement, international patients who contact PIM to schedule an appointment or second opinion at Wills Eye or Scheie Eye, will be extended a full range of services, such as discounted hotel accommodations, specialized orientation and patient advocacy services. In addition, patients will be extended PIM’s discounts for international patients.

Wills Eye physicians also will participate in PIM education and training seminars for international physicians through the PIM Institute of Education. PIM offers a monthly live seminar series that is aired at sites around the world via Internet video or cable lines. The Education Institute also organizes visiting physician programs in which Philadelphia physicians travel abroad to participate in training programs and direct patient care; observerships for foreign physicians to train in Philadelphia with a mentor; and topic-specific seminars that are custom designed for international clients.
