For immediate release:

Philadelphia – Philadelphia International Medicine (PIM) hospitals were named among the nation’s best in all 16 specialty listings in the most recent U.S. News & World Report best hospital issue, headed by The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) which was again ranked as the best pediatric hospital in America.

In almost every category, PIM placed more than one hospital in the rankings of certain specialties. For instance, in cancer care, PIM placed three hospitals – Fox Chase Cancer Center (FCCC), Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP), and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (TJUH) – on the list of the nation’s best cancer hospitals. In addition, every PIM academic medical center can be found among the US News rankings. In addition to the number one ranking in pediatrics by CHOP, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania placed exceptionally well by being listed for cancer care; digestive disorders; ear, nose and throat; endocrinology; gynecology, heart and vascular diseases; kidney diseases; neurology; orthopedics; respiratory disorders; urology; ophthalmology; psychiatry; and rehabilitation.

PIM hospitals also were extremely strong in rehabilitation with three hospitals named to the list of the nation’s best – MossRehab; TJUH and HUP.

"We are honored that MossRehab is consistently recognized as one of the leading rehabilitation facilities in the country," said Ruth Lefton, Chief Operating Officer, MossRehab. "This recognition clearly reflects the ongoing commitment of our entire staff to providing the highest level of quality patient care and services."

MossRehab offers a wide range of specialized services, including comprehensive programs for brain and spinal cord injury, stroke, amputation and orthopedic conditions. In addition, MossRehab is one of only a few rehabilitation hospitals in the nation to be designated by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research as a Model System of Care for traumatic brain injury.

The 2006 U.S. News listing marks the fourth consecutive year that CHOP was named the best pediatric hospital in the United States. "While this ranking is certainly a great external affirmation, what really matters is our responsibility to care for our patients and to advance the field of pediatric medicine," says Steven M. Altschuler, MD, president and chief executive officer of The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. "I am humbled by this recognition. It is our responsibility to continue to work to provide the best care and to share our learning and research nationwide."
