PIM Member Hospitals Rated Among Best by U.S. News & World Report
Philadelphia – The U.S. News & World Report once again placed Philadelphia International Medicine’s (PIM) hospital network among the best hospitals in the United States in its annual listing of “America’s Best Hospitals.” For the third year in a row, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) placed as the number one pediatric hospital in the nation. And, for the ninth year in a row, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) placed on the prestigious “Honor Roll” as one of the top 16 adult hospitals in the nation.
PIM member hospitals placed well in all of the critical specialty categories. In the area of rehabilitation, five of PIM’s nine member hospitals placed on the list of 26, with MossRehab in the top 10. MossRehab was named for the 12th consecutive year. In addition, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital was listed in six separate specialties.
“What is remarkable about the Philadelphia International Medicine member hospitals is their record of consistent high quality medical care,” said Andrew Wigglesworth, PIM President and CEO. “Year after year, our hospitals place among the best in the nation in every specialty category. We are proud of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, MossRehab and all of our hospitals for achieving such a long record of outstanding patient care.”
“For more than two centuries, Penn has been committed to the highest standards of patient care, education and research,” said Ralph W. Muller, Chief Executive Officer of UPHS. “And as the primary teaching hospital of Penn's School of Medicine, HUP attracts extraordinary clinicians, scientists, and students that help advance patient care in America through pioneering initiatives in biomedical research.”
“While this ranking is certainly a great external affirmation, what really matters is our responsibility to care for our patients and to advance the field of pediatric medicine,” says Steven M. Altschuler, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. “I am humbled by this recognition. It is our responsibility to continue to work to provide the best care and to share our learning and research nationwide.”
PIM member hospitals have placed in most categories. Fox Chase Cancer Center and HUP both made the list of top cancer centers in the United States. Fox Chase and HUP are both comprehensive National Cancer Institute centers. In digestive disorders, HUP and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (TJUH) both were listed among the top programs in the United States. HUP and TJUH both placed in ear, nose and throat; HUP and TJUH in geriatrics; HUP and TJUH in gynecology; HUP in heart; HUP in hormonal disorders; HUP in kidney disease; HUP in neurology and neurosurgery; TJUH in orthopedics; HUP in respiratory disorders; HUP for urology; MossRehab, TJUH, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, Temple University Hospital and HUP for rehabilitation; and HUP for rheumatology.
