PIM Hospitals Ranked Among Best in America; The Children's Hospital Ranked Number One

For immediate release:

Philadelphia - Philadelphia International Medicine (PIM) hospitals and physicians were named among the best in the United States by U.S. News & World Report, including The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as the top pediatric hospital in America, and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, named to the prestigious Honor Roll as one of the best overall hospitals for the seventh consecutive year.

The magazine issues an annual ranking of the top hospitals, and PIM hospitals placed in each of the 17 categories. In fact, many of the categories had several PIM hospitals listed as among the best in the nation. The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania placed among the best in 14 of 17 medical specialties, and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital was listed in nine specialties; Temple University Hospital in three, and Fox Chase Cancer Center, MossRehab and Pennsylvania Hospital in one each. Fox Chase, which has been consistently listed on the U.S. News listing as among the best, showed a significant improvement in its ranking in oncology.

"We are proud of the achievements of our hospitals, and proud that they represent the City of Philadelphia and Philadelphia International Medicine very well, indeed," said Andrew Wigglesworth, president and CEO of PIM. "The U.S. News survey confirms that Philadelphia is the home of the best medical care available, and that is particularly true for international patients who come here in increasing numbers."

PIM hospitals placed strong rankings as a group, with three hospitals listed as among the best, in cancer care, digestive disorders, geriatrics, and rehabilitation. "With one telephone call or e-mail to PIM, we make it easy for international patients to find the best medical care available in any medical specialty," said Wigglesworth.

"As the teaching hospital of Penn's School of Medicine, we attract extraordinary clinicians, scientists and students. Groundbreaking research by Penn physician-scientists translates directly into advanced medical care for patients," said Garry Scheib, executive director of HUP.

"We are proud to be named America's best hospital for children," said Steven M. Altschuler, MD, Children's Hospital's president and CEO. "We take our responsibility as a leader in providing excellent patient care seriously and are committed to finding cures and treatments for children through innovative research and quality education."
